It’s summer FINALLY, and although I’m sure we may still have a few nippy days left before we launch head first into sun-filled fun-filled December holidays it’s time to start working on our tans.
Anaïs Boileau has taken a few beautiful portraits of a few women that, simply put, live for the tan. Have fun and use sunscreen!
The first time I heard Bye Beneco was at wolves, and it sucked because the crowd kept talking over them. The second time I heard Bye Beneco was on Soundcloud and that didn’t suck one bit.
If you haven’t heard BB before I suggest listening to this song while you read the rest of the post.
The band is made up of four wonderful humans, all of who look like they’ve just stepped off the Further:
Lenny-Dee on lead vocals, keys, and guitar.
Jenny on vocals, keys, and percussion.
Bergen on drums and guitar.
Matthew on guitar and drums.
Their name comes from a surreal place where the unconscious mind meets reality…see I told you they had Ken Kesey written all over them.
When the band heard that Crystal Fighters, MGMT and The Presets were coming to South Africa they figured that their sound would be amazing as an opening act, hands up if you agree.
If you want to year more Bye Beneco goodness vote for them to Open The City by SMSing “BYE BENECO” to 48477 or vote here.
I’m also giving away tickets to VITC so head on over to my Facebook Page or Instagram account to enter!
Sometimes I think I’m going to end up like one of those crazy old ladies on hoarders, how do you know when you have too much art and beautiful things in your house?
Alessandro Ripane was born in Genoa (Italy, but he’s lived and worked for a period in Sweden) exactly in the middle of 1989.
Due to the lack of wild animals in the city of Genoa, Alessandro bought a lot of books about it.
Due to the lack of superheroes in the city of Genoa, Alessandro bought a lot of comics about it.
Needless to say, soon became an expert in both categories, even if now draw a little bit of everything, except the aliens, because it is not sure how they are dressed.
Now he’s engaged to fight the fall of his hair, to compose sophisticated music of the future, to learn how to draw aliens and watch a lot of movies about monsters and zombies that he has not seen yet.
I feel like his illustrations would make a beautifully weird wallpaper don’t you?
There must be hundreds of posts out there about cringy couple photos. Leta Sobierjski and Wade Jeffree have put together a portrait project that pokes fun at some of those ridiculous pictures, inspired by photos of couples, many of which are from the 80s while others are homages to great couples throughout history.
This is the kind of art I want hanging in my house!
This weekend my lovely cousin Tanya showed my a video of her friend Roxy’s wedding. The wedding was pretty widely publicised so I had seen a few photos but nothing prepared me for their hi-lights video, which left me with goosebumps and a few tears in my eyes.
I was so amped on the video I spent the next hour watching and re-watching all the videos by Hand Stitched Films and I thought it would be a crime not to share some with you. They describe themselves as a small team of international cinematographers with a love of story-telling and a total disregard for formula, driven by the possibility of capturing authentic experiences.
Here are some of my favourite videos by the team:
Last night I once again dragged the ever patient Craig with me to this years FNB Art Fair, which once again did not disappoint. I was actually incredibly surprised to see just how many people were there at the fair this year. So head out this weekend to the SCC and be prepared for delicious food and jaw dropping art. Get your ticket and more details here.
The only disappointing thing about the fair was me forgetting to change my camera lens…welcome to my zoomed in view of the fair:
What girl isn’t obsessed with fashion in some form?
The Whitepepper Spring collection just kicked my love for fashion into overdrive. If some nice human out there could give me EVERY SINGLE PIECE I would love them forever and make them tea on demand for the rest of eternity!
Each piece is incredibly beautiful and well thought out and reminds me of a Pinterest perfect picnic on a green hillock.
