My first experience with Mexican food was when my lovely friend Fran from Texas in the US held a Mexican themed party, so it’s safe to say the bar for Mexican food was set extremely high and Mama Mexicana is well above it. Their food is so good in fact that I’ve been there twice since visiting it for the first time.
Mama Mexicana has been around for about a year now and much like an old wine it’s getting better with age. In-between stuffing my face with chilli poppers (which are delicious by the way) I managed to talk to Kevin, one of the owners of the restaurant. Born in Taiwan Kevin worked in a Mexican restaurant with an American couple who taught him everything he knows, if I could find that couple I would hug them…hard!
We really had no idea what to order so we decided to order one of everything including: breakfast burritos, chilli poppers, corn bread, bacon nachos and chicken quesadillas. Everything was delicious but by far my favourite snack was the warm corn bread with sour cream.
You can find Mama Mexicana at 264 Fox Street just behind the Arts on Main complex. They are open from Tuesday to Sunday every week and even more exciting they are really well priced, for the four of our meals and two drinks each the bill came to jus under R400!

Since travelling to Japan last year I’ve been obsessed with the Japanese culture and the amazing artists influenced by it.
I recently discovered the work of Tatsuro Kiuchi.
Tatsuro was born in Tokyo where he studied biology and later moved over to art where he excelled at illustrations for children’s books. I love almost every single one of his pieces but I picked a few of my favourites to share with you, I can just imagine one of his prints being turned into the most amazing wallpaper.
Yesterday thanks to the wonder people at Artlogic Angie, Jo and myself got to have a full day of delicious food and inspiring sculptures at the Winter Sculpture Fair.
It was my first time going so I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but when I was greeted by rolling green hills and delicious smells coming at me from every angle I knew I was going to have the best time.
The fair only happens once a year, but I would save the date now for next year!

In 2013 SA Tourism started the #MeetSouthAfrica campaign. The campaign brought bloggers from around the world to experience just how awesome South Africa is. This year the #MeetSouthAfrica campaign once again invited some of the world’s best travel bloggers to South Africa. On Saturday I was lucky enough to join the #MeetSouthAfrica Instawalk in Soweto meet a few of the bloggers and catchup with one of the organisers the amazing Heather Mason from 2Summers one of the best Joburg based blogs ever!
Here are some of my pics from the walk, follow the bloggers as the move around our beautiful country by checking out the #MeetSouthAfrica hashtag.
My sister has been living in Pietermaritzburg for over a year so this weekend a managed to fly down for a short visit. It was really awesome to meet all her friends and see the hospital where she works…did I mention she’s a doctor.
On the Saturday we drove to Oribi Gorge which is home to the worlds highest gorge swing (165m). If jumping of a cliff isn’t quite your thing it’s also a really awesome place to have a picnic. Entrance is R15 pp.
